Technology News Desk!! Apple’s Make in India shipments grew 65 percent (on-year) by volume and 162 percent by value. With this, the value share of the brand has increased to 25 per cent in 2022, from 12 per cent in 2021. This information has been given in a new report. According to a Counter Research report, the contribution of exports to Make in India smartphone shipments is set to reach an all-time high in 2022, both in terms of volume (20 per cent) and value (30 per cent). Overall, Make in India smartphone shipments are projected to decline by 3 percent in 2022 (January-December) to 188 million units.
The key factor behind this decline was softening consumer demand due to macroeconomic headwinds, especially in the second half of the year. Apple’s EMS (Electronics Manufacturing Services) partners Foxconn Hon Hai and Wistron were also boosted by growth in Apple’s exports after being the top manufacturer in the fourth quarter of 2022, said Prachir Singh, senior research analyst. In the fourth quarter of 2022, Samsung emerged as the top smartphone maker ahead of Oppo, whose manufacturing ring shipments declined by 31 percent due to inventory issues in the entry-tier segment. Both these manufacturers have also received PLI incentive in recent disbursements.
Among OEMs, Oppo leads Made in India smartphone shipments with 22 per cent share in 2022, followed by Samsung. Research director Tarun Pathak said that overall 2022 has been a good year for manufacturing and localization in India. Rising exports from Apple, Samsung and other OEMs should boost locally manufactured shipments in 2022 and offset the impact of declining local demand to some extent, Pathak said. The recent disbursement level of PLI incentives, as well as other initiatives by the Government, both at the Center and in the States, have boosted overall local manufacturing.
