Today, February 7th, is the safe internet day. And Apple does not want to ignore the day, remembering that one of its main assets for its platforms is security in the face of the use that minors make of their devices. It’s the reason so many parents trust iPhones and iPads, and Cupertino knows it.
And for this reason, Apple wanted to give a series of tips that all parents and legal guardians can follow to ensure that the devices their children use do not cause a bad experience due to inappropriate content. Let’s review those tips that the company has sent in a press release.
Controlling what our children do with Apple devices is essential
- The first thing that Apple advises is to activate Airtime on all devices that the minor in charge is using. It is the way with which your parents can control through reports the use that you are giving to the devices.
- Within Time of Use, Apple recommends that we not only stay with its basic functions. An important measure is Inactivity timewith which we can define a schedule for the use of the devices to be sure that from a certain moment these devices are blocked.
- Another important measure that many parents look for: usage limits. It is there where we can impose a “cap” of time in which minors can use applications such as social networks or content on YouTube and the like. The same can be said with the communication limitsto limit which people can start conversations with children.
- If we have problems with purchases made without permission by a minor, activate the purchase limits you can fix it. Every time our son wants to buy something, permission will be requested from the parents and they can deny it if they so decide. You can also set limits on the content itself that can be purchased by age: if an application is not recommended for minors, it cannot be purchased.
To all these tips, Apple also remembers its algorithm capable of detecting abuse in images, something about which it had to clear up controversy a while ago. Thanks to this, Apple is able to detect abuse or inappropriate images in users’ photo libraries while respecting their privacy.
Finally, Apple also reminds everyone that it is hosting Today at Apple sessions dedicated to parents who want to learn how to use Screen Time with their family. You only have to reserve a place for these sessions from the Apple Retail Spain website and remember that for everything to work well you must have an iCloud as a Family configured with the rest of the members of your household.
