We all go with our ID always with us, however, the little ones are not obliged, but until what age? How old is the DNI mandatory if we talk about Spain? We answer your question below.

The National Identity Document (DNI) is the document that identifies us all in Spain and that collects the personal and vital data of any person.

This document is not mandatory to always carry with you if we go down the street, for example, but Be very careful if a problem arises and an agent demands it from us. If we don’t have it, it could be considered a foul and we could even end up in the police station.

Now, if we talk about those who don’t have to wear it, like the little ones, When does it start to be compulsory in Spain? The minimum and mandatory age to have the DNI in Spain is 14 years. If someone older than this age does not have the DNI, which we talked about before, they could be sanctioned.

This also occurs for foreign residents in our country for a period of more than six months.

What does the letter of the DNI mean and the curious reason why only 23 letters are used

Although the minimum age is 14, the authorities recommend that minors under this age also already have the document, since It will allow them, among many other things, to be identified at all times as well as being able to travel throughout the European Union without problems.

Now this may be possible. as long as the boy or girl can take a photo according to the characteristics required by the Police to obtain the document.

For the first time, you only have to submit a valid birth certificate, a color ID photo and the registration certificate, in addition to paying the corresponding fees for its issuance. The person for whom the DNI is made must be present at the time of issue, as well as their parents or legal guardians in the case of being a minor.

It is important to know that for children under 5 years of age, the DNI must be renewed every 2 years. However, people between 5 and 30 years old must renew their National Identity Document every 5 years.
