After the enormous success of the video game adaptation, there is bad news for the second season of The Last of Us. Jonathan Ross interviewed on his show Bella Ramsey —who plays Ellie— who offered an update on the series’ continuation.
In the interview, the actress has given the approximate date of the beginning of the recordings of the second season of The Last of Us And it’s not what many expected.
«I think we start shooting at the end of this year or the beginning of next. So season two will probably premiere in late 2024 or early 2025,” Ramsey explained. The actress’s statements reflect those mentioned by Pedro Pascal in another interview, which gave similar dates. “There is a possibility that the recordings will start in 2023,” she said.
The start of filming for the first season of The Last of Us that just finished, it started in July 2021, it was done in Canada and it took a whole year. Considering that the series premiered in January 2023, that means that the total production time for a season of the series is a year and a half.
So, if the start of filming for the second season begins at the end of 2023, there is not much hope that we will see it until 2025. But this should not surprise anyone.
HBO series and other platforms streaming with high levels of production as it was WestWorld either mandalorians, the latter on Disney +, have quite long periods of time between one season and another. In many cases almost two years. So the premiere of The Last of Us 2 in 2025 shouldn’t take us by surprise.
What we do know about the future second season of the series is that it will cover the second installment of the game of the same name, but probably not in its entirety. A part of the material will be reserved to be adapted in a third season.
