Tech News Desk – The cases of cyber fraud are increasing continuously. As people are becoming cashless, thieves are also becoming hi-tech. Scammers generate such a link, on clicking which lakhs of rupees fly away from the account. Fraud can be prevented by not clicking on the link. Scammers can hit you anywhere. In a recent case of cyber fraud, a software engineer was duped of over two lakh rupees while he was booking travel through an online website.
A software engineer from Maharashtra was trying to book a cab online to travel to Nashik. He also entered his details on the travel agency’s website to book the cab and started making the payment. But the booking failed due to technical glitch. After some time the engineer got a call from a man who introduced him as Rajat and introduced himself as an employee of the same travel agency. But there was a technical glitch in the website while making the payment.
Ultimately, the victim abandoned the booking without proceeding with the booking process. Within a short time, messages started coming on his mobile one after the other. It came to know that more than two lakh rupees have been withdrawn from his account. Police said, ‘At midnight, a message came on his mobile that amounts of Rs 81,400, Rs 71,085 and Rs 1.42 lakh have been deducted from his credit card accounts.
On seeing this, he immediately called the customer care and asked to block the card. He got help from customer care and Rs 71,085 which he had spent last time was refunded. But he lost the balance amount of Rs 2.2 lakh to the scammers in cyber fraud. Police has registered the case and started investigation.
