Gone are the days when our grandparents or great-grandparents had to walk several kilometers to the river every day to wash clothes or dishes.
Now we use the dishwasher, which saves us a lot of time and work. And who does not have it, or when it breaks, hand washing under the tap.
But maybe there is a water cut in your house, or you are in a caravan, or camping, and you don’t have running water. What is the best way to wash dishes?
The most obvious thing is to put the crockery in a bucket of water, and wash it. But it is not very hygienic, because we will be washing with dirty water. And if we go wetting plate by plate with a bottle or similar, we will spend a lot of water.
The Appartment Therapy website explains a trick used by Polish campers, and also the army, to wash dishes without running water. Are needed three independent cubes.
The first container is used for the wash, the second for the rinse and the third is for the second rinse.
First remove all possible remains of the crockery, with a kitchen paper or similar. Pour some soap into the wash bucket, and submerge the dishes. Let them soak for a few minutes.
Wash the dishes with soap and put them in the first rinse bucket, to remove the soap suds. Then dip them into the second rinse bucket to remove the soap completely. It only remains to dry them with a cloth.
If there are several people, all the dishes can be washed in minutes forming a chain, and that each person is in charge of a cube. They will pass the dishes to each other, and in the end someone will be in charge of drying them. The kids will love the activity and the tableware will sparkle.
