An impressive goal for Nintendo in 2022
After a moribund Wii U, Nintendo managed to rise from the ashes with its Switch, which a few weeks ago exceeded the milestone of 100 million units sold worldwide. While one could estimate the Nintendo Switch losing ground, it is not so, and if Nintendo is aiming for lower sales than last year, that does not prevent the Japanese giant from aiming for a goal… 20 million additional sales during fiscal year 2022 (i.e. from April 2022 to March 2023)!
Thus, despite a certain rather logical decline in view of “age” and the popularity of the console, the Nintendo Switch could still post stratospheric sales this year. Admittedly, Nintendo will not be able to repeat the (more than) 28 million sales over the year 2020/2021, but according to Nikkeiit is a target of 20 million sales that Nintendo will announce when announcing its latest financial results on May 10.
If Nintendo manages to reach its goal, the console will be around 130 million in sales in March 2023, and thus get closer to the title of “history’s best-selling home console“. To do this, Nintendo can count on the launch of some strong titles in 2022, with Xenoblade Chronicles 3 this summer or even Splatoon 3, not to mention a new Mario & The Rabbids and probable surprises for Zelda and Metroid fans. Suffice to say that apart from an aggravation of the shortage or other unexpected event, Nintendo should once again experience a rather prosperous year.
In 2023, a certain Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 is planned… with possibly a new model of Nintendo Switch, the long-awaited “Pro” version. Added to this are other major titles (hello Metroid Prime 4) which should allow the Nintendo Switch to experience many sales again.
In this regard, as of December 31, more than 765 million Nintendo Switch games have been sold. Eventually, the console could be the first in the history of the Japanese giant to pass the fateful milestone of one billion games sold. Impressive…
