Internet security and privacy are more important than ever before. In this context, 9to5Google reports that Google is releasing a tool that makes it easy to remove search results that contain your address, phone number and other personally identifiable information. The company first rolled out the “results about you” feature at I/O 2022 in May. He described it as a way to “help you easily control whether your personally identifiable information can be found in Search results.”
Critical decision from Google about your personal data!
If you see a result with your phone number, home address or e-mail, you can click the three-dot menu at the top right. This will open the usual “About this result” panel, but will now also include a new “Remove result” option at the bottom of the screen. Then, in a new menu item called “Results about you” in the Google app, you can track the request by tapping your user profile in the top right. You can then monitor the progress of requests through the “All requests”, “In progress” and “Approved” filters.
The same page will also allow you to make a new request with the “Why do you want to remove this result” step. Options here include “Shows my personal contact information”, “Shows the person I entered with the intent to harm me”, “Shows other personal information”, “Contains illegal information”, and “Out of date.” options will be included.
Of course, removing contact information from Google Search won’t mean you’re removing them from the web. The new feature is only available to a limited number of users in the US and Europe, but will continue to arrive in all regions soon.
