A way to scroll, switch between apps or open Control Center more comfortably
If we already use a Mac with a trackpad, we will see that the gestures that we can use on the iPad are quite similar. Therefore, if we are already used to working on the Mac, it is best to simply let’s try to perform the same gesturesmost likely they will work. Let’s review the nine most basic gestures.
- Vertical displacement: scrolling through a website, such as the one we are on, a document or in general any section of the system, requires us to slide two fingers vertically on our trackpad.
- Side Shift: a movement that we will also do by dragging two fingers horizontally and that will come in handy in large documents, in which we have zoomed in or to move forward or backward between photos in the Photos app, for example.
- Secondary click: a click that opens a context menu with which to perform actions more quickly. Just like on the Mac, all we have to do is tap on the element that interests us with two fingers at the same time.
- Zoom in and zoom out: a gesture that we will probably know from our iPhone or the iPad itself and that is also present on the trackpad. It is enough that we join or separate two fingers, like pinching, to reduce or enlarge the size of certain elements.
- Go back to the start screen: we can get back to the home screen and all of our app icons by simply swiping up on our trackpad with three fingers.
- Access the Control and Notification Center: to access the Control Center we just have to place the mouse in the upper right corner of the screen and keep “pushing” upwards to display it. We will do exactly the same thing to access the notification center, with the only difference that we will place the mouse in the central part of the screen.
- Open the app switcher: accessing the app selector, where we find all the apps we are using at any given time, is also very easy. We simply slide three fingers up on the trackpad and stop in the middle.
- Switch between apps: Quickly switching between recent apps is as simple as a three-finger swipe horizontally on our iPad. The oldest apps are on our left, while the newest on our right.
- Use apps in Slide Over: Since we can use three apps at the same time on our iPad, we can quickly access the apps that we have open in Slide Over. We simply move the cursor to the far right of the screen and insist in the same direction so that it appears if it is not visible or disappears if it is.
- Click loosely: sometimes having to press hard to click can tire us out after hours and thousands of clicks in front of the iPad. We can configure the trackpad to be able to click without pressing, we just have to enter Settings > General > trackpad and activate the option tap to click.
Thanks to these and other gestures, the interaction with the iPad is greatly simplified and we avoid having to lift our hands from the keyboard to interact with the screen. An option that is still present, but with many hours of use it can end up tiring. In this sense, our trackpad offers us all the necessary tools to work comfortably.
