16,000 feet may seem like a lot, but not for an iPhone!
Any incredible story starring an iPhone can always be surpassed by another iPhone. This time, Apple's most popular device has shown that the resistance features that the brand promotes so much may fall short. This iPhone has survived intact after falling from a plane at 16,000 feet.
This discovery was made known by Seanathan Bates through his X account, who He found the iPhone on the side of a street in Portland, Oregon.
Found an iPhone on the side of the road… Still in airplane mode with half a battery and open to a baggage claim for #AlaskaAirlines ASA1282 Survived at 16,000 foot drop perfectly in tact!
When I called it in, Zoe at @NTSB said it was the SECOND phone to be found. No door yet😅 pic.twitter.com/CObMikpuFd

iPhone left unharmed after falling from 16,000 feet
According to the information confirmed so far, This iPhone fell from Alaska Airline flight ASA1282, losing one of the doorsjust taking off from a runway in Portland.
Given the discovery, Seanathan Bates detailed that the iPhone was in airplane mode, had about 50% battery charge and was open to the baggage claim of an Alaska airline. Additionally, a part of a charger was connected to the phone and broke when the iPhone “was 'teared' out of the door.”
But in addition, this iPhone had a hard protective case that made it withstand the fall from 16,000 feet. Thanks to this feat, it surpassed the iPhone, which had overcome the most shocking fall so far.
In late 2020, a pilot reported that his iPhone had fallen during takeoff maneuver, at about 1,000 feet high also with an apparently sturdy case.
Bates reported the missing cell phone to the National Transportation Safety Board and according to a representative of the NTSB, this was the second mobile phone recovered after the accident that occurred on January 5, 2023. That day, a window and a section of the fuselage were blown off the flight and are still being investigated.
At this point the iPhone can already attest to resisting falls from meters high, meters and months under water and surely many other situations that will come to light at any moment.
