Google’s Read Along app first launched for India in 2019 before expanding a year later. The goal behind this is to collaborate with literacy and reading improvement in children around the world.
And this is available in more than 180 countries with 9 languages at your disposal and is recommended for children over 5 years old. At the moment we know that the website, which is presented as a public beta, works with Chrome, Firefox and Edge browsers on Desktop and Android, and will soon be compatible with iOS and more browsers such as Safari.
As for this website, it is almost the same as the app. Children will be able to read and, in turn, learn languages, such as English, Portuguese or even Hindi, reading stories using Google speech recognition and text-to-speech.
Thanks to this technology, the app will be able to know if the child has any problems with pronunciation or when reading. In the event that this is the case, the Diya virtual assistant comes into play, which will collaborate with the child’s learning and correction.
Of course, all this with the assurance that all data and voice captures are fully protected. The search giant pointed out that since its launch the app has helped more than 30 million children read more than 120 million stories.
Google positions this tool as a “New opportunity for teachers and educational leaders around the world to use Read Along as a reading practice tool for students in schools.”
Finally, note that, as was the case with the mobile app, this one also can work offline. In addition, this web version provides us with even more improvements since it will not take up as much space as it does on your smartphone.
