Google has detailed a series of initiatives with which they intend to help combat extreme heat in citiesfrom technological solutions such as tree cover to support organizations and related projects.
One of these initiatives will be more than walking around the house: the Google search engine will give us details about heat waves in a simple way and directly in the search engine, in the coming months. The sooner it arrives the better.
Mobile heat wave alerts
Heat waves cause each year the death of half a million people and unfortunately it is a problem that only gets worse year after year, making heat waves a recurring phenomenon. Coming soon, we will have the crucial information of these heat waves at handjust a search away.
On this occasion, Google has opted for a more passive solution than in other cases, such as earthquake alerts: we will not get a notice on our mobile, but we will see the information in the search engine when searching for “heat wave”.
We will then see the heat wave warning -if there is one- the temperature forecasts for the period, from when to until when it will last and a series of tips on how to stay cool and other health considerations, right in the browser.
For this information, Google has partnered with the organization Global Heat Health Information Network (GHHIN) to offer relevant and accurate information, although we will not see it until in “a few months”. Let’s hope it’s not too late, as the weather forecast anticipates a temperature roller coaster.
