For a few weeks now I have noticed that from time to time Gboard was a little weird, although I was not sure if it was a bug or a feature. It turns out that it is a bug, just as several affected users they have made it known on platforms like reddit.
The error moves several keys around, creating one more row of keys and enlarging the send or enter key, which makes all the keys very thin and typing becomes an ordeal. While Google has not yet fully fixed the bug, there is a simple solution What you can use if this problem happens to you.
Gboard goes crazy
Over time we get used to where the Gboard keyboard keys are, pressing them automatically. That’s why, if Gboard suddenly changes the key layout, it is going to be much more difficult for us to write. This has been happening, intermittently, since the beginning of the month.
The error can be difficult to detect because at first it may be difficult for us to know what has changed in Gboard. Was it always like this? You can see the subtle, but important changes in the screenshots below. The most important change is that the keys are smaller and some are elsewhere. There are also repeated keys, such as key 123, which also appears on the right.
I personally have had this error appear for weeks now. intermittently: The keyboard works correctly and the next time I use it it adopts the “wrong” layout.
Google has not commented for now and none of the latest Gboard updates have completely eliminated the error, but luckily there is something simple you can do to get Gboard back to normal.
What you need to do is open Android settings, go to Applications and tap on Gboard. You do not need to delete cache or data, but it works with Force arrest from Gboard. The next time the keyboard is opened, it will be displayed correctly.
While it’s not optimal to have to go to Android settings to fix a Gboard error, the “good” news is that you shouldn’t need to do this very often, as the error appears from time to time. Until Google fixes it on their endis the only thing we can do except, of course, use another keyboard app.
