No one is a professional thief, this amateur burglar learned it the hard way. After stealing Airpods from his victim, he had the unpleasant surprise of seeing the police arrive at his home. It must be said that she had no great difficulty finding him.
We know that it is becoming more and more difficult to steal a connected device without being detected. Indeed, whether they are Apple or Android products, most of them now have a geolocation system which allows them to be found in no time. Of course, it happens that the device in question is already too far away or, even more common, that the thief has found a way to deactivate this system to go unnoticed.
But it also happens that the thief forgets, or simply is not aware of this technology. We don’t know if the bandit in our case of the day falls into one or the other category. Still, he was caught without much difficulty. This Tuesday, April 16, he broke into the garage of a resident of Bizanos, in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques, and robbed the contents of her car. In particular a certain box of Airpods.

Luckily, the victim quickly realizes that she has just been robbed. She therefore immediately called the police, who soon came to her home to find out what had happened. The authorities then realize that it is very simple to find the criminal: all you have to do is activate the geolocation of the Airpods. A few hours later, here they are ringing the thief’s doorbell.

There they discovered a 25-year-old man, who quickly admitted the facts. In addition to the Airpods, the police also found a scooter, a bicycle, a GPS, as well as work tools. The man appears before the Pau court this Thursday, April 18, where he receives his sentence: six months suspended prison sentence as well as 700 euros in damages.
