CarPlay’s wallpaper options will get three new choices when iOS 16 releases this fall. The new wallpapers are available in CarPlay, starting with the fourth developer beta released on Wednesday evening. And unsurprisingly, they are very much inspired by the official iOS 16 backgrounds for iPhone and iPad.
Soon CarPlay 2.0
Apple previewed a massive redesign of the next generation of CarPlay at its developer conference in June. Although the much more extensive version of CarPlay won’t arrive until late 2023, or even early 2024 at the earliest, there are a few changes coming this fall.
New app categories
With iOS 16, CarPlay introduces new categories of apps, including refueling and driving services.
Refueling and driving apps are available in CarPlay. Your favorite apps that help you fuel up and provide you with road information, toll assistance, towing assistance and more can find their way into CarPlay.
Siri is faster
Starting with iOS 16, drivers will have an option to automatically send a message after Siri reads it back for you. If the speech-to-text conversion works as expected, it will remove a step currently required when reviewing messages in CarPlay.
The new wallpapers
Upgrading your iPhone to iOS 16 will add three new wallpaper options to CarPlay. Each wallpaper has a version for light and dark mode. The new design is based on the default iPhone wallpaper in iOS 16.
Interestingly, CarPlay wallpapers include two additional color options for this abstract wallpaper design. The blue and gray versions are currently exclusive. However, CarPlay versions do not support animation or depth effect. Maybe future iOS 16 betas or updates will bring them to the iPhone.
