As you probably know, when your iPhone’s battery reaches 20%, Apple’s mobile operating system offers you to activate low power mode, also called energy saving mode. The latter disables a number of non-essential features in order to extend the device’s battery life.
If you find that this threshold is too low, like some of our readers who regularly ask us the question, we have a very easy solution to implement via Apple’s shortcuts.
A personalized energy saving mode
Of course, without waiting for the famous 20%, you can manually activate the energy saving mode that appeared on iOS 9 at any time through the settings or the control center. But you can also automate this task and have your iPhone go into low power mode on its own at the battery percentage of your choosing. For example, if you want your iPhone to activate the mode when the battery drops below 50% or any other level, this is possible with iOS 16.
Automatically activate economy mode
- Open Apple’s Shortcuts app and tap Automation.
- Tap “Create personal automation”. If you already have one, first press the “+” button.
- Scroll down and tap “Battery level”.
- Adjust the slider to the percentage of your choice. For example, if you want your iPhone to automatically turn on Low Power Mode when it reaches 50% battery, set the slider to that value
- Tap “Add action” and type “Economy mode”. Tap “Set energy saving mode”
- Press “Next” and check the summary of your automation:
When: “When the battery level is 50%”
Do: “Set power saving mode” - Uncheck “Ask before executing” if you want to prevent the system from warning you each time it activates this routine.
- Finally, press “Ok” to finish.
Here is the whole sequence in pictures:
There it’s done ! You have successfully configured your iPhone to automatically enter power saving mode when the battery level reaches 50% (or whatever value you choose).
In case you no longer want this feature, just go back to the Shortcuts app and delete this automation.
