In most homes we have curtains and/or blinds that help us not only decorate a room, but also improve the thermal insulation of the exterior by adding an additional layer of fabric over the windows and filtering light.
They are very useful accessories but, being made up of textile fibers in many cases, they tend to get dirty easily Cleaning is complicated as, in the case of curtains, we usually require that we take them down to put them in the washing machine. There is no other way to do it?
How to clean curtains without taking them down
Curtains should be cleaned periodically to maintain their shine and remove buildup of dust particles. smoke, dust, various stains that we transmit when we touch them, etc.
In many homes the traditional custom has been to take them down from their supports to put them in the washing machine, but there are more ways to achieve a effective cleaning which we can also apply to blinds.
To begin with, it is convenient dust before taking the next step, for which we can use a vacuum cleaner with flat nozzle appliqué that we must go from top to bottom.
If the curtains have stains we can proceed to give them a wipe with some steam cleaner. This solution not only ensures good cleaning, but also guarantees hygiene by eradicating parasites and bacteria. Of course, if we see that after applying a steam shower the stain is still embedded, we can try to scrub with a special clothes brush to try to get it out.
If it doesn’t, we will probably have to resort to using some additional element to help undo it. This is the case of the following everyday ingredients:
- Marseille soap: Mix a little Marseille soap with warm water, soak the stained areas of the curtains, rub gently, rinse with clean water and let dry.
- White vinegar and baking soda: These ingredients are already classics in household cleaning. All you have to do is pour a little white vinegar into a container, add a couple of tablespoons of baking soda, and wash away the stains with a soft sponge.
- Lemon juice: The citric acid in lemon allows you to remove some types of stains. You just have to dilute it with water, rub and leave it to act for an hour before rinsing with clean water.
As we can see, by applying these simple tips in order we can make many generic stains from daily use disappear from our curtains and blinds without having to remove them from their hooks. If the dirt is more embedded, we will probably have to do it to lower it and be able to put them in the washing machinesomething that cannot be done with many blinds.
