What are Collaborative Playlists in Apple Music?
Collaborative playlists are a way to share and enjoy music with friends and family. With this feature, You can add, remove, or rearrange songs in an Apple Music playlist with other people who have access to it. The advantage of this feature is the fun and ease with which you can explore new music, create themed playlists for special events, parties or simply enjoy music in company.
You can even express your “musical moods” using emojis in the « sectionnow playing«, which adds a different and fun way to use the application when you want to share music with friends. In previous versions of iOS we had to manually share a copy of the playlist, with iOS 17.2 or later, the process changes and is now much simpler. Below we show you what it consists of.
How to create a Collaborative Playlist in Apple Music on your iPhone?
If you want to create your first collaborative playlist on Apple Music, here’s how to do it:
- Open the Apple Music app on your iPhone.
- Go to the tab «Library» and tap «Playlists«.
- If you don’t see this option, tap “Edit» and select «Playlists«.
- Create a new playlist or open an existing one.
- When you are in the playlist you want to share. Open the three-dot menu in the upper right corner and select «To collaborate«.
- Alternatively, you can directly tap the « buttonTo collaborate” on top.
- Activate the option «Start collaborating» and tap «Start Collaboration«. If you disable this option, anyone can join without approval.
- Select a sharing option to Share the collaboration link.
Once you create your collaborative playlist in Apple Music, you’ll have control to add people, remove existing contacts, or stop sharing it altogether. You’ll also be able to edit the actions that people you share the playlist with can take. You can select if you want these people to have access to add new songs, modify the order, change the name of the playlist or change the cover photo.
Now if you want to see who is contributing new music to a collaborative playlist. You just have to touch the button «To collaborate» in the upper right corner of the screen and you will see a list of all the people who have access to the list.
Collaborative Playlist Support
As of the date of this article, collaborative playlists are only available on iPhone models with iOS version 17.2 or later installed. However, Apple is expected to extend this feature to other devices such as iPads and Macs in the future, although there is no exact date for this yet.
