Thanks to the Google Assistant routines it is possible to create commands that allow us to carry out this action. And don’t worry if you’ve never used them or don’t realize how to do it, because they’ll We will explain the process step by step so that your mobile obeys you when you ask it to lock or unlock.
Goodbye biometrics and security code and hello Launcher
The first thing to know, and which is by no means a minor thing, is that in order to be able to execute the Google routines necessary to unlock the mobile with a voice we must accept a significant loss of security at the terminal.
And it is that we must deactivate the unlocking systems, both biometrics with the fingerprint sensor and/or facial recognition, such as the security code of the device or the pattern. Therefore, we recommend that you take this into account, as there will be no way to configure it without bypassing this security recognition.
Another important aspect to know is that you must have a launcher installed on the mobile. You could use any of the many launchers for Android that exist, this being the one that will be accessed by voice. Normally, we will not be able to configure routines that access the system’s own launcher.
First, check that active listening is enabled
The unlocking system that we are going to create works as follows: you invoke the assistant using “Ok Google” or “Hey Google” and immediately tell him to lock or unlock the terminal. So, it will be necessary for the mobile to be attentive to your voice continuouslywhich is an option you should check by following these steps:
- Open the Google app.
- Click on your photo in the upper right and enter Settings.
- Click now on Voice and then in Voice Match.
- Make sure that Ok Google It is activated.
Following this, you must enable the continuous talk optionfor which you must continue in the Google app and in the settings, only this time you must go to google assistant > continuous conversation. Once you find that last option, you must verify that it is active or, failing that, activate it yourself.
Creating a voice unlock routine
Having already enabled the previous options, it’s time to get into the creation of a Google Assistant routine that allows unlocking by voice. To do this, you must follow these steps:
- Again, open the Google app and go to its settings.
- Go into google assistant and then in routines.
- Click on New to create a routine.
- Under Choose how this routine is activated click on Add first element.
- Now click on When you tell the Google Assistant.
- Enter the phrase with which you want to unlock the device. It can be “Unlock the mobile”, simply “Unlock” or any other phrase or word that is intuitive to you.
- Click on Add first element.
- Now you must click on add action.
- Choose the option Try adding your own commands.
- In the text box, type “Open” followed by the name of the app and click on Done.
- Finally, click on Save.
Once this is done, you can have the mobile completely blocked and say “Ok Google, unlock the phone” (or the phrase you previously configured) and it will be activated without you having to touch it.
And so you can block it with just your voice
In this case it can be said that you do not necessarily have to have the security systems deactivatedalthough if you want the previous one to be maintained without having to write codes or put the fingerprint, it is convenient.
In this case there is the peculiarity that you must have an app that serves to lock the phone, since it will be the one that activates the assistant to execute the action of blocking the mobile. We have tested it with the app Screen Off and Lock and it works perfectly, although you can use any other that fulfills this task.
Then it will be a matter of create another routine with which to execute the action that allows you to unlock the device, following steps practically traced to the previous one:
- Once again, open the Google app and go to its settings.
- Go into google assistant and then in routines.
- Click on New to create a routine.
- Under Choose how this routine is activated click on Add first element.
- Now click on When you tell the Google Assistant.
- Enter the phrase with which you want to lock the device (“Lock the mobile”, “Lock”, or whatever you want).
- Click on Add first element.
- Now you must click on add action.
- Choose the option Try adding your own commands.
- In the text box, type “Open” followed by the name of the appin this case “Screen Off and Lock” and click on Done.
- Finally, click on Save.
When you have done this, you will also have the option to block the device when you say the phrase that you have configured. As we said before, it is a good combination with the previous one, although if you want to keep your privacythe most advisable thing would be not to disable the security patterns and configure only this last routine.
