In this post we will tell you how to turn your mobile into a router and share your connection with any other device in what is known as Tethering. And we will also explain how to do it on both Android and iPhone mobiles.
Using iOS as a Wi-Fi hotspot
If we have an iPhone with a network connection we can cover any device with Wi-Fi connectivity. From a computer to a television, through a video game console or any compatible device. The only requirement is to enable the appropriate section within iOS. And doing it is very easy.
To manage to generate our own Wi-Fi network with an iOS terminal, it is enough to access “Settings” and, once inside, click on the option ‘Personal hotspot’. Keep in mind, however, that to share the Internet, the connection must be by mobile data, if we have the iPhone connected only to a Wi-Fi network, the ‘Personal access point’ option will not be available.
Once inside, just turn on the ‘Allow others to connect’ switch to turn our phone into a Wi-Fi hotspot. Just below is the ‘Wi-Fi Password’, that is, the key that the other device will ask for to connect to the network generated by our iPhone.
it’s possible modify both that password and the name of our device which will name the Wi-Fi access point. The password is changed on that same screen, by tapping on ‘Wi-Fi Password’, while to change the name of our iPhone, go to Settings> General> Information> Name.
Using Android as a Wi-Fi hotspot
If you use an Android terminal, the process to share the Internet connection is slightly different, although it’s also easy. In this case, for the captures, we have used a Motorola, so the interface in the rest of the manufacturers may vary a bit.
To enable the use of our mobile as a Wi-Fi point, we must enter ‘Settings’ (or ‘Configuration’) and click on the ‘Internet and networks’ option. A list will appear in which you have to tap on ‘Wi-Fi zone and connection’ and, once inside, press ‘Wi-Fi zone’ again.
Next, a new screen will appear from which we can not only share the Internet, but also change the name of the Wi-Fi network that our mobile will generatethe security of it and the password.
Obviously, to generate the WiFi network, just activate the switch that you will find at the top. From that moment, from the device to which we want to provide an Internet connection, read the QR code generated by our mobile or select the name of the new network and enter the defined key.
It’s important to put attention on the data, depending on the use that we are going to give to our connection, can fly, so it is interesting to have moderation when dealing with them. In addition, it is convenient to know in advance if our operator allows the tethering from our data rate so as not to get a scare at the end of the month.
