Nothing says 'home sweet home' like when your iPhone automatically connects to WiFi when you get home. AND nothing says that you are a good host when you offer your guests to connect to that WiFi. And if you add a charger to that, you become the best friend in the world.
But what happens when you have access to that WiFi network and you don't know its password? Or that password is so long and complicated that you refuse to memorize it. No problem: you can share that WiFi network with whoever you want even if you don't know their password. From iPhone to iPhone is very simple.
Your Wifi on your friend's iPhone, in 5 seconds
These are the requirements to take into account to be able to share the WiFi in your home or anywhere without having to know or mention the password:
- Both you and your friend need to use an iPhone, and it should be updated to the latest version of iOS 16 or iOS 17.
- Your iPhone must be unlocked and connected to the WiFi network you want to share.
- Your friend has to be a contact in your address book, and that contact must include the email that the friend has in their Apple ID.
If you meet all of those conditions, keep your iPhone unlocked and ask your friend to try to connect to the WiFi network. Just go into Settings, WiFi section and select the network. At this point, your friend's iPhone should ask for the WiFi password. And on your iPhone something like this should appear:
Click on the 'Share password' button. This it should populate automatically on your friend's iPhone, since it has been shared via AirDrop. The following message will appear on your iPhone:
Ready, your friend will now be connected to the WiFi network to which you are also connected. And since you haven't revealed your password, it remains more or less confidential.
An alternative: use a QR code
If your friend does not have an iPhone or uses an old version of iOS, this method will not work, but you have this alternative if you do it in advance: create a QR code to share your Wifi password. You can do it from the QiFi website, which will generate a QR code based on the name of your WiFi network and its password. You can do it even from your iPhone, entering your data and clicking on the 'Generate' button:
Here you already have to know the WiFI network password, but if you do this preparation you will not need to memorize it. You'll just have to show the QR code on your iPhone and let your friend focus on it. The mobile phone, whatever it is, will recognize the credentials of a Wi-Fi network and connect to it without asking for the password manually.
