Having a large television requires a substantial budget. Fortunately, some references allow you to make great savings, as is the case with the 70PUS8556 model from Philips. Indeed, this 70-inch TV drops to 779 euros instead of the basic 1,399 euros.
To compete with the big names in televisions, Philips is relying on its Ambilight 3-sided lighting technology. A significant asset for the manufacturer, which is doing well by making your content more immersive and dynamic. The experience will only be better with a large diagonal, and that’s good since the Philips The One 70PUS8556 TV loses more than 600 euros of its price.
What we like about this 4K TV
- Its very large diagonal of 70 inches
- Its HDR10+ and Dolby Vision/Atmos compatibility
- Its HDMI 2.1 connectivity and integrated Android TV
- A little extra: Ambilight technology
Initially at 1,399 euros, the 70-inch Philips The One (70PUS8556/12) TV is now available on promotion at 779 euros on the Ubaldi website.
A very large screen that makes the difference
The Philips The One 70PUS8556 TV has a diagonal of 70 inches, which makes it a TV of considerable size, so make sure you have enough space in your living room before buying it. One thing is certain, this diagonal is more than comfortable for viewing all your content. This model also offers 4K definition, and is compatible with HDR10+ and Dolby Vision. Enough to ensure a very good image quality. It also features the powerful Philips P5 processor, which will take care of upscaling all your content in 4K. On the sound side, we are entitled to Dolby Atmos for a vast and very rich rendering.
With its thin screen and silver metal frame, the TV makes a great impression. But its real strong point lies in the Ambilight. Concretely, the TV incorporates three light bars on the back, which will diffuse a luminous halo all around the screen, which will therefore be projected on the wall. This technology is used to add more depth to the image, since the colors of the halo match those of the broadcast content. Result: an even better immersion on a daily basis.
Android TV, an excellent OS
This SmartTV runs under the Android TV OS. Google’s TV OS gives access to a fluid and intuitive interface to navigate very easily through the menus, but above all it allows access to the Google Play catalog. In particular, you can find video-on-demand service applications such as Netflix, Prime Video or Disney+. You will also have the Chromecast functionality, which will allow you to broadcast content from a smartphone or tablet, as well as Google Assistant to control your TV by voice.
The Philips The One, on the other hand, is not really intended for gamers. This TV even includes an HDMI 2.1 port only allowing VRR for fluid and fast gaming, but not 120 Hz because the panel is blocked at 60 Hz. In terms of connections, there is a TV antenna port, HDMI ports 2.0, an Ethernet port, two USB ports, a jack port and an optical port. Note, the TV incorporates DTS Play-Fi technology to connect to compatible speakers in any room.
