Home windows have been protagonists in different articles. We have reviewed curiosities about low-e glass or how to “survive” in old homes with old closures through which the cold sneaks in. But we have never explained the different types of closures that we can find in the market.
And in stores and specialized stores, there are all types of windows and glass with closures that adapt to the needs of each user. That is why we are going to review which are the most common and in what circumstances it is most appropriate to opt for each of them.
Each type of closure has specific characteristics, and therefore, offers a series of different benefits. Depending on the type of house and general installation, it will be more appropriate to opt for one type of window or another. For example, in a small room a sliding window is more appropriate than a practicable one, since this way we will gain space and avoid unforeseen scares.
sliding windows
It is a type of window opening system that, as I mentioned before, is ideal for rooms or rooms with little space or in which, for example, curtains or blinds are going to be used. This type of closure allows you to gain space, but in exchange it has worse thermal and acoustic insulation and we will also always have half of the window occupied by one of the sashes.
Hinged, practicable or folding
Are classic windows, those of a lifetime. Among the advantages it offers, it stands out that it has better thermal and acoustic insulation and that it also allows you to open the entire window and gain more space for ventilation. In addition, cleaning them is easier, but yes, we must take into account the room in which we are going to install it and the type of furniture and decoration so that the leaves do not collide or disturb.
Fixed window
These types of windows are immovable and they are intended above all to ensure good interior lighting, which is why they usually have a large glass surface. Furthermore, since it cannot be opened or closed, what this type of closure ensures is good thermal and acoustic insulation.
Tilt-and-turn
It is perhaps the most popular model today and in fact at home, we have opted for this closing system on the windows. This type of windows They are a mixture of two types of closure and therefore offer two possibilities: open the leaves completely in traditional mode or choose the swing mode. Therefore, they bring together the best of both types and offer more opening possibilities for each situation and have an airtight seal.
Oscilloparallel
A not so usual window, this this type that mixes the possibilities of a sliding window, but also of a casement. They offer worse thermal and acoustic insulation, but in exchange they take up little space and offer different possibilities.
Pivoting
This type of window, This type of window is also unusual and its operation is based on the use of a central axis that allows the window to rotate on it and when it is fully opened, the leaf remains in the central area, leaving practically all the space free. The problem they have is similar to that of the folding ones, and that is that when the leaf is open it does not disturb the interior of the house.
Combined
Also unusual, this type of window integrates in a single mechanism the possibilities offered by the sliding, folding or, for example, tilt-and-turn windows.
