Surprisingly, Apple won’t launch iMac Pro or Mac Pro until 2023, according to renowned Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. On the other hand, in addition to the expected entry and mid-range Macs, the firm plans to release a 27-inch external display without mini-LEDs later this year.
Full-size iMac or iMac Pro?
In his predictions for the Mac lineup in 2022 and 2023, Ming-Chi Kuo said that Apple plans to release a new high-end Mac mini and a 27-inch external display without mini-LEDs in 2022, while a Apple’s Mac Pro and a silicon iMac Pro won’t launch until 2023.
Predictions for Apple’s new desktop products:
1. 2022: More powerful Mac mini and more affordable external display (27-inch without mini-LED).
2. 2023: Mac Pro and iMac Pro.— 郭明錤 (Ming-Chi Kuo) (@mingchikuo) March 6, 2022
This contradicts the information shared by the analyst specializing in display technologies, Ross Young. The latter, who also has a credible track record with Apple products, had said that an iMac Pro could be launched as early as June this year. The iMac Pro is supposed to replace the 27-inch Intel-based iMac currently in the lineup and will be sold alongside the 24-inch desktop computer announced in April 2021. Among the major changes, the iMac Pro would be equipped with a mini-LED backlight like the latest MacBook Pro and iPad Pro 2021.
How to interpret the difference between the two sources of information? Kuo and Young are very knowledgeable, so they just might not be talking about the same product.
Kuo could be referring to a true top-of-the-line pro-grade iMac Pro, while the details advanced by Young simply refer to a larger but non-pro-grade iMac. Apple had dropped the “iMac Pro” brand last year around the same time.

A mini Pro Display screen without miniLED
In the nearer future, Kuo says Apple plans to release an affordable display for consumers this year. According to Kuo, the screen will measure 27 inches and will not feature mini-LEDs. Just today, Mark Gurman noted that the display is likely to be announced during Tuesday’s Apple keynote.
