Google is working on multiple improvements that will come to devices with the Android operating system that support the next version, Android 15. Among the new features that we have already learned about are improvements to notification management, improvements to the lock screen, changes to the dark mode and more.
But the company is also developing improvements to accessibility features, one of them has to do with the function of enlarging the screen, which can be of great help for people with vision problems, and can also be very useful for those people who want to see any element, text or object in an application. enlarged and sharp form. Starting with Android 15, the system will offer a new gesture to enlarge the screen, as discovered in Android Authority.
Android 15 will allow you to enlarge the screen with just a couple of taps
All mobile devices with Android operating system have a function to enlarge the image on the screen, a kind of digital magnifying glass which allows you to enlarge a section of the screen for easier visibility.
We can activate this function from the Accessibility section, found in the system settings menu. When activated, Android offers us several options to access this “magnifying glass” at any time: using a button that is permanently on the screen, or using gestures. Currently, the available gestures are holding down both volume buttons, or tapping the screen three times simultaneously.
But this will change in Android 15. Starting with the next version of the operating system it will be possible enlarge the screen by double-tapping the screen using two fingers. This has been discovered in Android Authority in the latest beta of Android 15, although this gesture is not yet available for users of the public beta of the operating system.
This is a simple but effective improvement, which promises to work much better than the “triple tap” gesture on the screen. And when we activate this gesture on our mobile phones, the system warns us that triple tap can hurt performance of the device, especially when using the keyboard, as the system must slow down the device’s response time to avoid accidentally activating the expand function.
By using this double-tap gesture with two fingers, you avoid this inconvenience and, in addition, the magnifying glass function can be accessed faster.
However, the triple tap gesture will still be available under the advanced options among the ways to activate the zoom function, which is understandable considering that some people may have difficulty using the double tap gesture with two fingers, and The idea is offer more options for accessibility.
The new gesture is expected to be available in the final version of Android 15, although it is very likely that we will see it in an upcoming public beta version of the operating system.
