cyber security agencies alert
This alert has been issued by the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Center of the Ministry of Home Affairs. The alert states that state and central government websites are potentially being targeted by hackers while urging the concerned government authorities to take preventive measures. Last year, a massive ransomware attack brought down the system of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), leaving its centralized records inaccessible, among other hospital services.
Overall, 19 ransomware attacks on various government organizations were reported to the Indian government in 2022, almost three times more than before. According to alerts from I4C, an Indonesian “hacktivist” organization called Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) DDoS) and Denial of Service (DoS) attacks. Explain that DDoS attacks occur when a computer network is intentionally filled with data sent simultaneously from many different computers. Concerned cyber security agencies in India have been alerted about the attack.
Is this the reason for the attack?
According to the alert, the hacktivist allegedly posted a list of the websites it claimed to have targeted. State and central government websites were included in this list. Malaysian hacktivist gangs are said to have targeted Indian government websites last year to fuel political unrest over comments made against the Prophet Muhammad.
According to Anand Prakash, founder and CEO of cyber security company PingSafe, all software upgrades are ongoing. Government employees should be careful to avoid social engineering scams after receiving this alert. They should also take care not to click on any link or email that they do not recognize as doing so can put the security of sensitive websites at risk.
