After several generations asking for it, Apple has finally listened to us. Battery percentage returns to the top of the iPhone screen, so you never have to swipe Control Center to see how much usage percentage your device has left. This change arrived in the fifth beta of iOS 16, and it is already possible to test it.
If you have an iPhone with Face ID (with ‘notch’), you should already know that view your battery percentage is not possible without swiping Control Center. For this reason, many apple users have requested for generations that this function be included again in their terminals. Until now, Apple mentioned that there was not enough space to include the icon and the numbers at the same time.
Today, Apple shows us that it just needed some time to get things right. With the beta 5 of iOS 16, it has been revealed that the percentage returns. And what is better, they have done it in a rather curious and aesthetically very pleasing way.
This is how the new battery percentage for iPhone works in iOS 16
The battery percentage has been added within the icon itself. Currently, the battery icon has a white frame and a white fill. Of course, between both elements we find a translucent separation that reveals whatever is behind it. Now when you activate this feature, you will see how the frame and the padding become one, allowing more space for iOS 16 to project the percentage inside the icon without too much trouble.
In this way, those from Cupertino have put an end to several years of appeal. A) Yes, as long as you have an iPhone compatible with iOS 16, you can activate the percentage of battery in the system so you never have to lower the control center again. Yes, it was not too complicated to do it this way, but having to touch the screen to see something so simple is an action that detracts from the experience.
Also, the battery icon will change color depending on the state it is in. If it is charging, for example, it will be shown in green and with the percentage in white. If offline, it will be displayed in white and black letters, or black and white letters, depending on the background color.
Which iPhone devices can use this new feature?
Technically, any iPhone with access to iOS 16 beta 5 should be able to access it. Nevertheless, It seems that at the moment it is not like that at all.
People who have already tested the beta on various devices have confirmed its absence on certain models. Between these, we have the iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 11 and iPhone XR. In the case of the mini versions, this absence could be due to the size of their screen. However, for the other two there is no precise explanation at this time.
If you have a compatible iPhone, you can activate it from the section Drumson the menu Settings. Just go in and activate the option battery percentage.
We don’t know if Apple will end up including the feature later on these devices. Only time will tell. After all, this is the first time this feature has appeared, and iOS 16 is still in beta. We’ll see how everything looks at its official launch this coming September.
