The iPad Pro is now the most advanced device that Apple has, at least in terms of Apple Silicon. What started as a spin-off of the original iPad to reach those who asked highest performance in a tablethas become the spearhead of the brand.
If in previous generations we already enjoyed a fantastic screen, a huge canvas and some improvement more intended for creative professionals, for this new model Apple has gone all out. Starting with the heart, which integrates the most advanced Apple Silicon processor that exists.
This is the new iPad Pro 2021
New iPad Pro M4, new horizons
The technical specifications of the iPad Pro M4 are a waste of technology. The brand wants to bet on this new device as a tool with more reach of which we know it, and it has given it neither more nor less than a new processor that needed to be powerful to power the new screen: the new M4 chip.
In the detailed analysis we will give a good account of the capabilities of this new chip, which according to the demos that we have been able to see in the testing area after the Apple Event in London, are spectacular. He even dares with programs rendering 3D that in combination with the new Apple Pencil Pro gives rise to a tremendous creative tool.
The new live design impresses. It’s so thin that It was even difficult for the camera to focus on the device itself if we put it in profile. I liked the comparison they made in the keynote, comparing it with the iPod nano – which was still the thinnest device ever made by Apple. This iPad Pro is now the custodian of this award.
Despite its extreme thinness, and even in the largest size, the device is compact, robust and most importantly: it does not give the feeling of weakness in the body – and yet it is not heavy at all. It can be held perfectly with one hand and does not seem weak even if we pick it up from a corner.
The back texture is slightly different – at least in the minutes in which I have been able to test it – and it makes sense since Apple wanted improve the dissipation of the new processor. To do this, they have changed the rear materials slightly, meaning that so much heat should no longer accumulate in one area of the case.
The new screen is the star
This new model is undoubtedly a firm bet that Apple must round out with an equally powerful software version with iPadOS 18, which we will see at the next WWDC24. If we talk about the first impressions of the current product, what is most striking about the new iPad Pro M4 is the new OLED screen improved by the brand. Apple has named it Ultra Retina XDRand in my tests it seems that the quality of colors and contrast radically improves on its predecessor.
In the demos that I have been able to see, with photographs and some content creation appsthe colors are noticeably more vibrant, deeper – especially the pure black of certain areas stands out – even in an environment as complicated in terms of light as a keynote testing area.
Another thing that I liked most about this first contact is that it has neither more nor less the same nanotextured video anti-reflective layer which mounts neither more nor less than the Studio Display XDR monitor. This process eliminates day-to-day reflections, although it distances it from what we traditionally know as a “matte” screen.
The sensation of this technology on an iPad Pro that rests on a table on top of a monitor that is placed vertically is different: on the iPad Pro it is impossible to eliminate all reflections, but it blurs them very well and allows you to prevent them from mixing with our content and confuse us on the screen – even with very pronounced spotlights like the ones I mentioned previously in this test area.
With this update, Apple puts on the table – never better said – a device that no longer rivals Macs in power: even surpasses themalso thanks to the improvements in artificial intelligence of the Neural Engine cores that we will test in the detailed analysis.
