In his latest newsletter, journalist Mark Gurman claims that iOS 18 will make the iPhone home screen even more customizable. Unfortunately, the latter does not give more details. However, we can rely on the latest advances in this area to imagine what this will look like.
The days pass and bring us a little closer to the launch of iOS 18. For Apple users, the wait can be particularly long, especially given the talk surrounding the update. Indeed, some do not hesitate, including the well-informed journalist Mark Gurman, to qualify this as the most important update since the beginning of the iPhone. Just that. Notably, iOS 18 is expected to mark Apple’s first entry into generative AI.
But it doesn’t stop there. Indeed, it could also be, again according to Mark Gurman, that the next update could give the user more control over the interface of their iPhone. Historically, this has never been Apple’s strong point, something Android users have never failed to point out. This time, Mark Gurman claims that the home screen “will be even more customizable”.
iOS 18 will give users control back over its interface
Unfortunately, Mark Gurman does not provide further details on this point. But it is interesting to note Apple’s evolution on this point. Starting with iOS 14, another major update to the operating system, users have finally discovered the widgets on the home screen that have been found on Android for several years. Then, with iOS 16, these widgets appeared on the iPhone’s lock screen.

In short, it’s a safe bet that the new customization options in iOS 18 continue in this vein. For now, we will have to make do with guesses. We already know, moreover, that Apple plans to completely modify the iOS interface, taking inspiration from VisionOS, the Vision Pro operating system. On the other hand, we will have to wait until the next WWDC, at least in June, to learn more about this. The beta, for its part, should arrive in July.
