The first time we use a new computer, it is a pleasure to see how quickly everything works and we are not upset about having spent the money. However, as the months go by, the performance of the equipment is getting worse, the applications take longer to run, the equipment crashes when we play, offering a very discouraging experience and makes us wonder what the reason could be if the equipment is new.
Unfortunately there is no single reason that leads the team to lose performance and become slower and slower. The good news is that it is not a hardware problem (forget about program obsolescence), but a software problem related to the operating system.
Reasons why a PC is slow
When we install an application on Windows, macOS or any other OSthe application/game makes changes to the Windows registry, installs plugins and makes a number of settings to, say, couple to the team. This is the main reason why you can’t copy an installed game or application to another PC and expect it to work. Games and applications are associated with files that are installed in other parts of the operating system in order to function.
Another reason that slow down the PC It is related to the massive installation of applications with the sole pretext of seeing what it does. Each installation modifies the Windows registry, the most important part of Windows, and when we delete them, the lines that were added are not deleted, so Windows goes crazy trying to look for those references when they are no longer available.
The number of applications that run when we start Windows is another reason why Windows takes longer to start. The more applications that have been added (usually done without user interaction) at Windows startup, the longer the time required for the PC to be ready.
Although most of the PCs that come to the market with do so with SSDif our PC uses a HDD traditional, replacing it with an SSD is the first thing we should do to make the PC between 2 and 3 times faster. If we are short on memory, both in Windows 10 and Windows 11, the minimum recommended is 8 GB, this is another reason why the PC is very slow, the simplest solution being to expand it up to this minimum.
Your PC will be faster with these changes
The first thing we must do, if our computer does not have an SSD and a minimum of 8 GB of RAM, is change the hard drive and expand the memory. If our team already meets both requirements, we move on to the next point. Taking into account the reasons explained in the previous section, it is clear that we cannot do without the games or applications that we like for the simple fact of preventing our PC from slowing down, but we must take into account what each installation entails. what do we do. By this what we mean is that the practice of installing applications to test, the only thing it serves is to make our PC slower and slower.
What we can do is reduce the time it takes our PC to start up, a process as simple as eliminating all the applications that run in the background when we turn on the PC and that we know we are not going to use. To do so, we just have to access the Task Manager through the right mouse button on the start menu and in the Start tab, select the applications that we do not want to run and, finally, press the button Disable.
Windows needs a minimum free space to function correctly, space that is generally used to convert it into virtual memory when the PC has all of the computer’s physical memory occupied. To avoid performance problems, it is advisable to always have a minimum of between 10 and 15 GB free. If Windows does not have that minimum space available, it will slow down each time until the moment comes when it crashes and shows the blue screen of death.
