Bad news for consumers who were hoping for a little design innovation in the iPhone 15 Pro.
Throughout the last few months we have seen all kinds of rumors circulating regarding the implementation of a new volume button on the iPhone 15 Pro models that would replace the classic buttons and that could have tactile functions and/or pressure sensitivity with vibrations that would emulate the sensation of pressing a physical button. But the plans were canceled due to unspecified problems in their development.
Now an Apple supply chain manufacturing company called Cirrus Logic has confirmed the cancellation of this novelty for iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, and they have expressed it through a letter to their shareholders.
The inclusion of a new haptic “no button” on the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro would have required implementing two additional taptic engines to provide vibrations under pressure. It was rumored that Cirrus Logic would be chosen for the development of the hardware components necessary to control the taptic engines in the new line of smartphones from Apple.
This is the letter that Cirrus Logic has sent to its shareholders and in which they confirm the cancellation of the replacement of the classic volume buttons:
“Among the HPMS (driver) opportunities that we have been discussing, a new product that we have mentioned in previous letters that was scheduled for introduction this fall is no longer expected to hit the market as planned. As we have limited vision in the plans of our client’s future, we will remove the revenue associated with this component from our internal model.”
From macrumours inform that in Cirrus Logic they conclude the letter ensuring that will continue in negotiations with a strategic client and they hope to bring new components to the market in smartphones for the coming year.
Apple is currently the largest customer for Cirrus Logic and they contributed 79% of your earnings in 2022.
Although the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max will not have a unified volume button with pressure sensitivity, it is speculated that they will incorporate a new multifunctional action button that will replace the iconic sound switch that has always been present in the iPhone. This action button, in addition to enabling and disabling sound, will also function as a camera shutter with focus and video recording functions depending on how hard it is pressed.
Among other developments regarding the design of the next generation of iPhone, we know that the iPhone 15 Pro will arrive in a striking dark maroon finish and that the base iPhone 15 will have a baby blue finish. All models will have USB-C and at least a 48 MP camera lens.
