A few days ago, we mentioned that the Xbox Game Pass promotion for only 10 pesos had returned and it seems that now that Microsoft bought Activision Blizzard, maybe expected titles like Diablo 4 or Call of Duty will be in this subscription service.
After several months that the company had announced its desire to acquire Acti-Blizz, Judge Jacqueline Scott Corley of California has given the green light. Although, there is still an antitrust case by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the head of Xbox Game Pass himself, Phil Spencer has already made the official announcement of it.
What does it mean that Microsoft bought Activision Blizzard for Xbox Game Pass?
During 2022, the director of the video game line talked about the purchase of Microsoft about Activision Blizzard and its arrival on Xbox Game Pass. He mentioned that they are expanding the options in two different ways: through the creation of GP, which gives players a subscription option, and by bringing more games to mobile platforms through our cloud game streaming technology.
Therefore, he pointed out that his goal is to grow the game library with the Acti-Blizz catalog, which includes titles such as Overwatch, Diablo and Call of Duty, and thus encourage the growth of those player communities. Phil Spencer mentions that this offers even greater value to gamers, and they hope to expand their subscription service and make it more attractive on both mobile phones and any connected device.
However, Bobby Kotick, current CEO of the newly acquired company and owner of games like Diablo 4 has a quite different opinion. «I don’t agree with the idea of a multi-game subscription service as a business proposition in the future,” Kotick said.. ‘But we can agree to disagree’ Kotick has a similar sentiment to PlayStation boss Jim Ryan, who said the game publishers he spoke to don’t like this subscription model either.
Xbox Game Pass could have Call of Duty and Diablo day 1
However, it seems that little or nothing mattered to Bobby Kotick’s opinion today. Phil Spencer, head of Xbox and key witness in Microsoft’s trial of Activision Blizzard’s purchase, shared his reaction via Twitter.
“We are grateful to the court for quickly deciding in our favor. The evidence showed that the purchase agreement is beneficial to the industry and the FTC’s assertions about console switching, multi-game subscription services, and cloud do not reflect the reality of the video game market,” Spencer stated.
He continues and gives us clarity about the arrival of Call of Duty or Diablo 4 on Xbox Game Pass: “Since we first announced this agreement, our commitment to bring more games to more people on more devices has only increased. We have signed several agreements to make Acti-Blizz games first-party Xbox games and available to more players than they are today on Xbox Game Pass.”
