Sarah Bond, president of Xbox, announced the launch of a brand new app store on Android and iOS. This will host all Microsoft-branded mobile games, such as Minecraft and Candy Crush. To begin with, the platform will only be accessible via the web.
It’s now official: after several rumors, Microsoft has finally confirmed that its own mobile application store is on the way. It was through Sarah Bond, president of Xbox, that the information was revealed during an interview with Bloomberg. It is in July that we will be able to discover this new platform, a sort of Microsoft Store dedicated to mobile games on Android and iOS.
However, this new store will not work exactly like the Play Store or the App Store. To begin with, Microsoft will first focus on a web platform rather than a native application. “This allows us to provide an accessible experience on all devices, in all countries, regardless of closed ecosystem store policies. Then we’ll expand from there,” explains Sarah Bond.

Microsoft Mobile Games Store Coming in July
The operation of this store therefore still remains relatively unclear. Will you have to go to the games web page you want to download from your smartphone to get it? Let’s hope not, because it won’t be very practical. To date, the web versions of the Play Store and the App Store allow you to download applications to your smartphone, but only because the stores are already installed on the latter.
This decision, on the other hand, was ultimately predictable. If Apple is now forced to welcome alternatives to its App Store on iOS, this constraint is only in force in Europe. Microsoft would therefore not have been able to offer its store natively elsewhere in the world. Moreover, we expect to find all the biggest mobile titles from the firm. Minecraft of course, but also and above all, since the acquisition of Activision-Blizzard-King, Call of Duty Mobile and Candy Crush.
