NeatherRealm’s Ed Boon confirms his next game is either Mortal Kombat 12 or Injustice 3, studio boss Ed Boon confirms. This is not a big revelation since the Warner Bros. team has only worked on these two fighting licenses, but it eliminates the possibility of seeing something new. According to leaks, the title would be the next Mortal Kombat.
In the media, Ed Boon’s statements on Twitter that the new project is “I3 or MK12” have been disseminated. In the last decade, the team has alternated between one saga and the other, so after Mortal Kombat 11 of 2019 we expect Injustice 3, but rumors suggest that the priority of the studio and the publisher, for sales and prestige, is Mortal Kombat. The Johnny Cage actor also hinted at his imminent return.

A Mortal Kombat 12 with forgotten characters?
Perhaps more interesting is the response on Twitter to a comment from a player who pointed out the scarcity of characters from the 3D era in recent games. “That’s something we’ll fix soon,” Boon replied.
2011’s Mortal Kombat, Mortal Kombat X, and Mortal Kombat 11 focused on the most well-known characters from the original trilogy, plus a few original additions or cameos. However, the trilogy of games with 3D gameplay -Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance, Mortal Kombat: Deception and Mortal Kombat: Armageddon- contributed dozens of unique fighters that have been repeated in the main story of the saga. Among the few exceptions we can mention Kenshi -who recently starred in an animated movie, Mortal Kombat Legends: Snow Blind-, Frost -secret character from MK 11- or Nitara, who will probably appear in the latest live action movie.
