For a century, American film and television have reigned unchallenged. To the point that when a foreign series or movie stood out, they did not broadcast it in the United States: They directly covered it with their own actors and directors.
That time has passed. Now foreign films and series succeed in the United States and many of them, including actors and directors, receive the most prestigious awards, such as the Oscars.
However, it seems that Netflix wants to recover the old custom. And it is that the caramel is too sweet, after the worldwide success of the Korean series El Juego del Calamar, and the Spanish La Casa de Papel. What if we merge the two? So we get Money Heist: Korea. The Korean version of La Casa de Papel. You can watch the trailer here:
We do not know how they would have taken it there in the United States, but the most watched series in the entire history of Netflix is not Stranger Things, nor The Witcher, nor The Crown or Cobra Kai. The most watched series is the Korean The Squid Game. And the Paper House is in third position.
So the decision seems obvious: why not take advantage of the pull of Korean fiction, and make a version of Money Heist in South Korea? Internationally the series is called Money Heist, so we already have the title: Money Heist: Korea.
According to Variety, the first season will consist of 12 chapters and its argument will revolve around a supposed reunification of the two Koreas, after almost 80 years of division.
As the nations prepare to print a new unified currency, a mastermind strategist known as the Professor assembles a group of high-profile thieves from North and South to attempt to steal the new currency straight from the mint.
To shoot the series, directed by Kim Hong-Sun (Voice, Black), Netflix has brought together top-tier Korean actors: Yoo Ji-tae (Oldboy, Healer), Kim Yunjin (Shiri, Lost), Park Hae-soo ( The Squid Game) and Jeon Jong-seo (Call, Burning).
Money Heist: Korea will premiere on June 24 exclusively on Netflix. If it is successful, we must not rule out that we see a Money Heist: USA, etc. There is vein for a while…
