According to advance in The Information, Apple would be working on a 16-inch iPad a more than considerable difference compared to the 12.9-inch iPad Pro, tablets already considered large and currently marking the maximum.
The first resizing on the iPad Pro in 4 years
It is not the first time that we have seen rumors about an iPad larger than those that already exist. Just a few months ago, a 14-inch iPad was expected, which, put into context with the latest leak, could mean a paradigm shift in the ‘Pro’ range.
Since 2018, Apple has stayed true to the 11-inch and 12.9-inch sizes in the iPad Pro. In fact, except for small modifications such as the integration of a double camera or the change of screen technology in the large model, the company has not changed one iota of the design. And in the meantime it has been changing other ranges, which could be to blame for the change in the ‘Pro’.
First it was the ‘Air’ that changed its form factor to fit a design and size almost identical to that of the 11-inch iPad Pro, except that it slightly trimmed its diagonal to 10.9 inches. The ‘mini’, a separate case in terms of size, also changed its design in 2021. The last to change its format has been the basic iPad, the one that does not have a surname, and also doing it with a design practically traced to the ‘Air’ and, consequently, to the ‘Pro’. Now it’s time for the elders to evolve.
A change in size could serve to add one more differentiating element to the range and especially with the ‘Air’. Not in vain, the powerful hardware of the ‘Pro’ with the M1 chip was inherited by the ‘Air’ model launched this year and everything indicates that next year they will also inherit the M2.
There is still time to learn new details, but it sounds interesting to say the least. If on top of that we take into account that recently one of the company’s heavyweights did not rule out a touch Mac, who knows if we could really be before an iPad Pro with macOS. This is the dream and frustrated desire of some who will surely be expectant before this rumor that places 2023 as an important year for the iPad ‘Pro’ range. Anything that is then simply a change in size… Cook will say.
