During this week, NVIDIA announced the graphics cards RTX4080 and RTX4090. Also, some data to show that, compared to the previous generation, there is a significant jump in performance. Now, the statistics shared by the company have an important detail that must be considered: are powered by DLSS 3 technologywhich has allowed performance to be multiplied up to four times in certain games.
This, of course, has caused consumers question what is the true potential of the RTX 4080 and 4090 leaving aside DLSS 3. Especially since there are still a good number of relatively recent titles that are not compatible with said technology. Fortunately, it didn’t take long for NVIDIA to provide this information (via PC Mag). With the new graphics, it is already possible to get an idea of the performance of the GPUs when there is no generation of pixels or frames.
Obviously, don’t expect to see the “4x” of the graphs shown during the presentation. In the best case, without the intervention of DLSS 3, the performance is close to double. To prove it, NVIDIA shows us how it behaves Resident Evil Village, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Y The Division 2which do not support any version of Deep Learning Super Sampling.
“There are some games on the chart, like The Division 2 Y Assassin’s Creed Valhallawhich don’t have DLSS, so you can see the performance compared to our fastest RTX 30-series GPU without DLSS.”
NVIDIA.
The card that stands out the best, for obvious reasons, is the RTX 4090, whose performance is clearly superior to the RTX 3090 Ti. The 16GB RTX 4080, meanwhile, also outperforms the previous generation’s top performer by a tiny margin. Of course, the 12 GB variant, which many see as an RTX 4070 disguised to justify its high price, only manages to match the potential of the 3090 Ti in The Division 2.
Be careful, that the entry RTX 4080 —or 4070, whatever you want to call it—, is quite close to the performance of the 3090 Ti, it’s not bad either. However, it is important that you keep in mind that, To get the most out of the RTX 4000, yes or yes, you will have to rely on DLSS 3. Let us remember that the latter is capable of generating frames complete and no longer just pixels; that’s why we give them with Cyberpunk 2077 they show brutal performance without sacrificing visual quality.
Of course, we are still waiting for more detailed tests of the RTX 4080 and 4090. These will emerge once they hit the market from October. Also, that more games get on the DLSS bandwagon as soon as possible. A few days ago we announced the games that, at the moment, have support for the new version.
