Microsoft today is celebrating and commemorates 15 years of OneDrive. In its statement, the company has thanked all the effort made and has announced that it will offer new and intuitive experiences to OneDrive.
Let’s take a look back in time and go to 2007 when Microsoft launched its cloud storage solution to facilitate file sharing and synchronization. The first 5 years were very successful, especially when companies started using Microsoft 365.
Over the past five years, OneDrive has increased monthly active users by 240%. And it is that, OneDrive has become the central system for all file experiences in Microsoft 365.
On the occasion of his birthday, as we have already indicated, and as reported by The Verge, Microsoft wants to roll out new features:
1. A clearer home page: The Redmond firm intends to introduce OneDrive Home, a completely redesigned new home page for allow easier and cleaner handling.
The view of recent files has been redesigned to highlight the documents you are working on and they have integrated new options to sort everything. It’s known that in the coming months, OneDrive Home will be available for use and access.
2. Collaborative file experience across Microsoft 365: It will be possible to mention collaborators using the at sign, or work with multiple people in real time on the same item. To make collaborative work easier, Microsoft is introducing a new activity column in OneDrive.
3. Stories for your photos and videos: one of the most striking points refers to the possibility of creating stories. Since it already exists in Google Photos or in iCloud, for example, OneDrive will use the photos and videos stored in it to generate stories.
These will be private, but they can be shared with your loved ones, who will have the opportunity to react and comment, as if it were a social network.
Note that this feature is already accessible in Australia on Android, iOS and web browsers. The company further mentions that it will roll out the new feature first in the United States and elsewhere in late 2022.
