Apple announced it in 2021, the Wallet application (Maps) in which you store a ton of cards of all kinds will become even more efficient. One of the new functions is to be able to register the digital key of your hotel room. Video demonstration.
Opening your hotel room with your iPhone is possible
Since the release of iOS 15, the application Wallet of the iPhone, incidentally renamed Cards for France, gains power. Beyond knowing how to store a credit card, a plane ticket, a cinema ticket, an identity card… it can now keep your hotel room key warm in your smartphone.
During WWDC 2021, Apple unveiled some images as well as partnerships with certain hotels selected to be the first to implement this system. Thanks to the QR Code in your Wallet and the installation of compatible locks in the establishment, you can have access to several places such as the room, the elevator… without having anything on you except your phone.
As always, the Americans are the first to benefit from it and it is therefore on their side that we must turn to get a first glimpse of the system. That’s exactly what did Rich DeMuro on his YouTube channel. Via a short video, he filmed the opening of his hotel room with his smartphone and obviously, it works like clockwork.
The video is shot in one of the hotels of the Hyatt hotel chain, which is Apple’s first partner and therefore the first to use this feature. The hotel’s Hyatt application allows you to add the room key in the Wallet immediately after booking remotely. Once your reservation time has started, the QR Code is activated and you can open the room without anyone’s help.
To take advantage of such a service in France, you will unfortunately have to wait a little longer. On the other hand, it is only one more demonstration of the effectiveness of the Wallet to replace our real wallet. Some Americans can now use the Wallet to pay, open a hotel room, show ID, take a plane, take the subway and even take out a driver’s license in the event of an inspection on the road. It’s hard to do without a smartphone in 2022.
