Oppo ranks ninth in the world
The Asians are not only in the Top 5 of the main smartphone manufacturers in the world, but they are also one of the most prominent companies when it comes to filing patents, specifically occupying the ninth place worldwideif we take into account the number of patents filed during the last year.
And not only that, but already It is the fifth consecutive year in which it has made it into this ranking of the companies with the most patents filed in the industry. In numbers, Oppo has filed more than 101,000 patent applications worldwide as of March 31, 2024, of which more than 55,000 patents have been granted.
Of all these patents 91% have been considered utility patents. And a large part of these patents end up translating into important technical innovations in the manufacturer’s smartphones.
New patents focused on AI or 5G
The Chinese manufacturer has wanted to take advantage of all the patents filed so far around artificial intelligence, for years, which have been gradually reaching different facets of its smartphones. Specifically There are 5,399 patents related to AI filed around the planet, including another 3,796 utility patents that have focused on artificial intelligence of images.
Curiously Oppo also occupies the ninth place in the «Artificial Intelligence patent ranking» published by IPRdaily, which with 3,743 patents has reached that position in China. Smartphone cameras have traditionally been the main benefactors of this large number of patents. According to Oppo, in the future powerful functions such as AI Eraser or AI Magic Studio will be integrated into its devices, image editing tools that use artificial intelligence to perform complex edits in record time.
In addition to artificial intelligence, Oppo also emphasizes that other technologies, such as communication technologies, have been the subject of its patents. This is the case of 5G or 6G, the present and future of mobile communications worldwide. When it comes to 5G, Oppo has already presented in more than 40 countries and regions patents related to this technology. At the European level, it has also filed more than 3,300 5G standard patents, and has submitted more than 11,000 5G proposals within the 3GPP Third Generation Partnership Project.
In regards to the imageanother of the fields where Oppo is very strong, has filed 12,306 patents, and in relation to fast charging and its VOOC standard, it has done the same with licenses for more than 50 companies that have used it. The summary of all this is that the Chinese brand is one of the most active in intellectual property on the planet, and that this usually ends up translating into the devices.
Within smartphones, image processing in record time is usually the most AI-driven area. The same goes for the editing of these, and what is to come. With increasingly complex language models fully integrated into the phones, something that is expected to be offered in greater quantities by the brand’s future phones.
