Our editorial staff was able to test the Tesla Model X for a few days. The verdict is clear: this is the ultimate family electric SUV in terms of equipment, on-board technologies and driving. However, luxury comes at a price…
9 /10
- Plenty of space
- Controlled consumption
- State-of-the-art technologies
Available at €141,990 on Tesla
The American manufacturer Tesla has exported all the models in its catalog to the European continent. The latest arrival is the Model X, an electric SUV with imposing dimensions. As always for the brand’s vehicles, you are provided with a very high level of equipment and the technologies are at the cutting edge. Our test of the Tesla Model X is clear: it is one of the best electric cars on the market.
Its score of 9/10 confirms all the good that we think of the vehicle. However, as with any product we test, there are weak points that we are about to detail for you. However, nothing really prohibitive since we have placed this Tesla Model X in the following buying guides:
Why choose the Tesla Model X?
If you’re looking for a new family electric car, here are the model’s biggest assets.
For its vast interior space
As you can imagine, the electric SUV has foolproof roominess. With a wheelbase of almost three meters and a total trunk space of 2431 liters, there is enough to embark a small tribe and all the luggage you want. Above all, the Tesla Model X can be ordered in a 7-seater version, something quite rare on the market. On the passenger and driver side, you can also enjoy a huge panoramic windshield. A good point to offer more visibility. Note also the presence of doors Falcon Wing which facilitate entry into the car — and bring a certain class.
For embedded technologies
Tesla is a specialist in technologies for cars. The Model X is no exception, with a superb 17-inch horizontal screen and the OS present in all the brand’s vehicles. It is possible to split it in two, for example to see the rear cameras and Spotify. The integration of Steam also allows you to exploit your game catalog, if you have compatible controllers. The sound system is still excellent, as is the route planner.
For car performance and range
The American manufacturer is still at the forefront of the electric car market, especially in terms of power. The Tesla Model X is a good student thanks to its 95 kWh battery. During our test, the car showed between 19.1 kWh/100 km for the Dual Motor and 20.8 kWh/100 km for the Plaid. In terms of WLTP range, the car promises 625 kilometers. Recharging from 10 to 80% is done in just 30 minutes. The Model X is also particularly fast, since it is able to ship the 0 to 100 km in 2.6 seconds. Overall, the ride is very pleasant and the car has it under the pedal.
Why not buy the Model X?
As good as this electric car is, this one requires some concessions. Nothing too dramatic, but enough to reconsider your purchase. What are they ?
For its price
The price of quality, you might say. Yes, everything has a price. The Model X in its basic version is still displayed at 119,990 euros for its Dual Motor version, 131,990 for the Plaid version and can go up to 156,990 euros with all its options. We might as well warn you right away, don’t expect a possible ecological bonus.
The Model X is a somewhat one-of-a-kind proposition that has no real competition. On the market, only the Mercedes EQB can have a somewhat similar offer even if the latter remains limited, in particular because of high consumption. Same problem for the Volvo EX90 which is a greedy car. The real rival of the Model X is the Tesla Model Y Performance, certainly less spacious, but with the same features and half the price.
The Tesla Model X is for you if:
- You need a big family electric car
- You want the latest cutting-edge technologies
- You want an electric car that charges quickly
- You can afford to put more than 100,000 euros in a car
