Since Apple launched its Apple Arcade game service on the iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple TV, the company has made tremendous leaps into the gaming world. To go even further on this path, the Californian giant would like to release its own controller, which will obviously be specially designed for Apple Arcade games, but also for all other titles in the App Store.
An Apple controller?
Apple Arcade is service ambitious and promising which is successful, but very limited. Indeed, Apple manages to convince players, but not in a massive way as is the case for other services like Apple Music or iCloud.
The Californian giant has tried several techniques such as Promotional offers in the form of collaboration with other brands, the marketing campaign in the Apple Store or to include the game service in the packs Apple one.
If this last strategy is the one that has paid off the most until today, Apple still wants more subscribers!
One of the recent ideas to encourage customers to subscribe to the service is to develop a bluetooth controller which would connect directly to your Apple device.
This controller would of course be sold on the Apple Online Store, at resellers, but also in physical Apple stores.
The goal with this controller would be to promote it as the perfect controller to play on your iPhone, iPad, Mac or Apple TV. By offering this new accessory, Apple would take a step towards all gamers who may be potential subscribers to Apple Arcade.
This strategy could be very beneficial as games compatible with a controller become more and more popular on Apple Arcade, but also on the App Store in general. We find for example:
- NBA 2K22 Arcade Edition
- Angry Birds Reloaded
- Mini Motorways
- Skate City
- Asphalt 8: Airbone +
- Disney melee mania
- Crossy Road +
- Alto’s Odyssey: The Lost City
As well as hundreds of other Apple Arcade titles that offer controller support …
A complicated bet against competing levers
Designing a controller takes time, which is why Apple has probably put its best engineers about the project.
In the patent, we find some details on the manufacture and operation of this controller.
For example, the description repeatedly mentions the integration of several sensors capable of detecting the movement of the user’s hand.
Apple may make the controller activates as soon as you take it in hand, the addition of a feature gyroscopic is also being considered.
Anyway, if Apple goes into this industry, the competition is going to be difficult since opposite there are many MFi controllers that focus on the gaming market on smartphones and tablets, but there are also the controllers of Sony and Microsoft. Let’s not forget that a PS5 or Xbox One X controller can connect via Bluetooth to your iPhone!
If Apple wants to market its more expensive controller, it will have to be more efficient, which is not won, because Sony has set the bar very high with its DualSense.
