Google is rolling out the May 2024 security update to its Pixel smartphone lineup. In addition to correcting some malfunctions, it closes significant security vulnerabilities.
Just because Android 15 is just around the corner doesn’t mean Google abandons the current version of its mobile operating system. When it comes to updating Android 14, we are necessarily more interested in “feature drops”, those which add new features.
But we must not forget the usefulness of monthly updates : they are the ones who correct these little bugs which sometimes annoy us on a daily basis and which best prevent pirates from infiltrating our smartphone. Google has just started deploying that of May 2024 on the vast majority of its range Pixel. Let’s see what it’s all about.
Latest Android security update is available on Google Pixels
Even though the update says as always that it fixes bugs and improves performance, Google gave a little more detail. Two specific points are addressed:
- General improvement of performance and some stability Bluetooth LE audio.
- Correction of camera performance when recording videos under certain conditions.
Note that not all Pixels are affected by these two points. The former is true for all models from Pixel 5a (5G) to Pixel 8 Pro, while the latter only affects Pixel 8 and 8 Pro. If you encounter a problem with any of the features listed, it should disappear once your smartphone is updated.
As usual, Google is taking the opportunity to make its mobiles more secure by filling gaps flaws potentially exploitable by malicious people. The May 2024 Android update closes just under twenty. All have a level of severity considered to be “high“, one of them even being “critical“. The rollout is underway and will not arrive at the same time for everyone, but you can check this by going to the Settings of the device then System And Software updates. This is dated May 5.
