The fourth-generation iPhone SE will eventually feature a 6.1-inch LCD screen and a notch at the top of the screen, according to Ross Young, analyst at Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC). In any case, that’s what he just told our friends at MacRumors, slightly modifying his predictions for the next iteration of the entry-level iPhone.
An air of deja vu
At the end of 2021, the analyst indicated that the company plans to release a new iPhone SE model in 2024 with a 5.7-6.1 inch LCD screen and a hole-shaped cutout for the front camera. A kind of revisited iPhone XR, something we heard more recently from Jon Prosser.
Young’s initial intel hinted that the Dynamic Island would be on the next SE, which was pretty hard to believe. But it seems more logical for Apple to dress up its “small” SE with a classic notch, for reasons of cost and differentiation. Besides, it’s unclear if the device will feature Face ID or Touch ID on the power button.
By switching to an all-screen design, there will in any case be no more room for a capacitive home button. If Apple opts for Touch ID, then the notch will be reduced to a minimum, which is good news for customers.
For the record, the 2018 iPhone XR had a 6.1-inch LCD screen, and Ming-Chi Kuo was the first to say that Apple was working on an iPhone SE with this screen size. Do you think that offering yet another new size of 6.1 inches in its range is a good strategy for Apple? If so, then there would be 3 models of this size and 2 models of 6.7 inches. Little hands will look gray.
