The PS4 twice as strong as the Xbox One
Recently, new documents submitted by Microsoft to CADE refer to the previous generation, during which the Xbox One battled with a certain PS4. At the time, if Sony did not hesitate to highlight the thundering sales figures of its new PlayStation, Microsoft remained relatively discreet on the subject. And according to the document unearthed by GameLusterthis would simply be due, and we strongly suspected it, to a poor performance of the Xbox One compared to its rival.
The document issued by Microsoft would state as follows: “Sony has overtaken Microsoft in console sales and installed base, having sold more than twice as many PS4s (as Xbox One) in the last generation“. Without advancing figures, Microsoft would thus confirm that the commercial success of its Xbox One was lower, by more than half, than that of the PS4.
Just recently, Sony announced that its PS4 had exceeded 117 million in total sales, making it one of the most popular PlayStations of all time, behind the super-powerful PS2, however, and its 155 million units sold. Although Microsoft has always been more reticent about sales figures, if the claims in the Brazilian court documents are correct, it means that Xbox One sales are therefore between 50 and 60 million.
Finally, the Microsoft document also refers to the famous “console war“, and stipulates that Xbox will find it difficult to compete with PlayStation, in this generation as well as the next, because “player loyalty to the brand“. It remains to be seen now whether the competition authorities will determine whether Microsoft’s takeover of Activision-Blizzard actually harms competition in the video game market.
