The company held its Tech Day 2022 and commented on its different ideas for what its SSD units will be in the medium and long-term future, with some quite interesting ideas.
The drives could stack more than 1,000 layers on their most advanced NAND chip by 2030, though this is only at a very early stage so it’s not possible to know if it will be officially released.
Samsung will seek to sell cheap to compete with the HDD
Samsung wants to compete with the new HDDs with better prices and this is not such a bad idea, since SSDs are at their lowest point and almost at parity when it comes to HDDs.
The company will have to work hard on its development because it wants to multiply by 5 the number of layers in each memory, increasing capacity and reducing costs.
SSDs arrive as alternatives to HDDs with their composition of silica optical discs, although these may have a difficult time reaching homes.
Samsung is clear about its route and its cost reduction objective, although this may bring difficulties to the market for this type of element at the time.
The company develops this new path while continuing to work on other elements such as the recently announced sliding world screen that will come along with a new way of using computers.
Samsung will compete in the market and will always be one of the strongest in all aspects, so this roadmap will be interesting to see how they develop it.
