Samsung Electronics is preparing for a massive launch of OLED TVs. This is what we learn in the Korean media, an agreement was made with LG Display to be able to buy OLED panels. There will therefore be both OLED technologies in the Samsung catalog. Which is surprising when you consider the energy that Samsung has spent to scramble the OLED message with its QLED technology.
the QD-OLED, we talked about it a lot during CES 2022. Several products have been made official with this new technology. There’s an ultra-wide monitor by Dell Alienware, and Sony has unveiled a QD-OLED TV, the Master Series A95K.
For its part, Samsung has not presented a QD-OLED television stamped with its own brand, even if the latter seems to exist according to experts in the field who have had the opportunity to see it in the strictest confidence.
At CES 2022, Han Jong-hee, Vice President of Samsung Electronics, also announced his willingness to partner with LG Display, which currently represents 99% of the OLED TV panel market worldwide. Samsung wants to market OLED TVs, even if the panel is provided by a competitor.
Samsung’s OLED TVs are coming
According to this source from a Korean media outlet, very close to both Samsung and LG, Samsung Electronics had planned to launch its W-OLED televisions as early as May 2022, but after the appearance of the Ómicron strain of Covid-10, the The whole schedule has been delayed. This necessitated reorganizing the contract signed with LG Display.
We now learn that Samsung Electronics plans to market OLED TVs with LG OLED WRGB panels as of this summer. Samsung Electronics has reportedly made a very significant deal to purchase LG WOLED displays at a similar price level to LG Electronics.
Samsung should therefore market LG WOLED televisions, a priori they have the capacity to manufacture 1.5 million this year, as well as QD-OLED televisions, with 500,000 more units. This gives 2 million OLED TVs for Samsung… a figure comparable to the 3 million units planned for its new Neo QLED range, which shows that OLED is a key technology for the Korean group.
Samsung would therefore have, like Sony, several OLED TV products in its 2022 catalog. Less expensive (W) OLED TVs with smaller and larger diagonal sizes, and some high-end models in QD-OLED of 55 and 65 inches in 4K definition only.
