Slopes, the popular ski and snowboard app, added support for the Apple Watch Ultra’s action button over the weekend, making it one of the few third-party apps to leverage the capabilities of the latest watch from the Californian manufacturer. The orange button notably allows the user to program a specific action according to his needs.

With the 2022.17 update, Apple Watch Ultra owners can program the action button to start a workout using the Slopes app, making it easier to get started faster than ever. Slopes is designed to automatically determine your GPS location when a workout is started, so just activate the Action button.
For now, a limited number of third-party apps support the Action button, and popular services like Strava have yet to take the leap. Applications and features can be launched using shortcuts, but it is more convenient for users if developers integrate this functionality into their applications.
Here are all the new features of Slopes:
- Support for Apple Watch Action Ultra button to start your workout. The slopes will automatically determine the station where you are starting (or if you are in the backcountry).
- Automatic water lock on the watch. Enable this setting to have your watch activate water lock automatically after recording starts. This is handy for equipment that can mess with your watch during the day.
- Improved Siri starting workouts on the watch.
- Fixed another crash related to leaving Slopes recording for a long pause.
Action button can be customized in the app Settings of the Apple Watch Ultra. It supports several native Apple Watch functions, such as starting a workout, starting the stopwatch, adding a waypoint to the Compass app, starting a dive , activating the flashlight and launching a user-created shortcut.
Slopes is available for free on the App Store, but a subscription is required to unlock all features. The developers behind Slopes recently added Live Activities support for the lock screen and the Dynamic Island, widgets and more.
