Netflix has officially announced that it will be strictly forbidden to share the password of the accounts away from the main use of the subscription. After losing 200,000 subscribers in the first quarter of 2022, Netflix decided to implement a series of changes to its streaming platform such as its new subscription plan with ads and, now, the ban on sharing accounts. From now on Netflix users must set your primary location and pay extra if they want to share an account.
Netflix will no longer allow password sharing for free accounts. But Netflix users will have a payment option to continue doing so. The measures have already entered into force in Spain. - Set up a primary location: Netflix will include a new configuration option whereby users will have to set their home as their primary location so that the service can detect who logs in at other locations.
- Add an extra subscriber: The streaming platform will introduce an extra subscribers function to add “subaccounts” for a maximum of two people who are not in the main location at an additional cost of 5.99 euros per month in Spain.
- Access management: From now on, Netflix subscribers will have a management system to control which users and which devices access their account.
From Netflix they have notified that their users will be able to continue viewing the contents of the catalog by logging into the Wi-Fi connection of the main location once a month.
It has been rumored that the company could block shared Netflix accounts if the new policy is breached. There is also speculation about the possibility that your application requests a temporary code and allows the display of content from a different location with a limit of 7 consecutive days.
