The time is coming to change our clocks and adapt to winter time. While the authorities in Europe decide whether or not to eliminate this practice, at the end of October we will again have to change the time and play again with the hands of our clocks and the buttons of our devices.
However, little by little and with the increasing presence of devices that are part of the connected home, It is a process that is changing. Switching between winter and summer time or vice versa and its consequences in our day to day life is no longer such a manual process, something that we are going to check in this article.
Time change yes, but automatic
Soon we will have to change again and go to winter time in 2022. It will be at the end of October, specifically in the early morning of October 29 to 30. At that time it will be time to move the clocks back, so that at 3 in the morning they will become 2 in the morning. For the most sleepy, yes, there will be one more hour of sleep and rest.
A process that always takes place at nightso that it interferes as little as possible in our daily activity, and that it is also carried out from Saturday to Sunday, so that it does not affect work activity.
The time change, in this case the switch to winter time, is based on the fact that with this system you can make better use of the hours of sunlight and therefore spend less energy. A change that we have been applying since April 20, 1916when Germany and the Austro-Hungarian Empire decided to launch it in the middle of the First World War and that has been in question for some time.
And it is that there are more and more doubts about the supposed benefits that these time changes bring us. Advantages that go from the moodbeing able to enjoy more light in summer, to energy saving which is presupposed by having more natural light during the working day, which means that companies do not have to use as much artificial lighting.
But leaving aside the motivations or not behind this change, what is certain is that Starting October 30, sunrise and sunset will be one hour earlier and that the presence of the connected home has markedly changed this practice.
On all the devices we have at home, adapted to European time, the change will be applied automatically. It is an important nuance, since it is the device you have associated with another region, it will not change the time and will continue with the time that corresponds to that country.
The ones who do it on their own
At home, we already have a good number of devices connected to the network, something that allows them to change the time automatically without us having to intervene in the process. The first thing that comes to mind is the phone’s computer, but this list that was recently limited now has more elements.
If at home you have an alarm clock connected to the Xiaomi Mi Clock style, a Smart TV, a speaker with a clock, a sound bar, a camera… Any of these devices, they will change the time automaticallywithout you having to intervene.
In all these cases, they change the time, and in the same way, we will not have to worry about whether or not the alarms sound at the wrong time, because all the mechanism or programming that we have established are adapted with this change.
We are talking about connected devices, but there are also some others, although few, that without being connected they also change the time automatically for a schedule that is already included. It is something that you can check in some remote controls of the air conditioning or in the heating programmer (note, they are not connected to the Internet).
Then, those non-connected devices that do require us to intervene in the time change process should be included in another category. A kind of “dumb” devices in which televisions appear without the word Smart, ovens, washing machines, microwaves… or even the clock on the bedside table that does not have a Wi-Fi connection.
And be careful, although we talk about silly devices, in the kitchen we have more and more connected devicesso that perhaps your oven or microwave changes the time automatically.
In all these that are not connected to the network, we will have to press the buttons one by one to move the time back or forward depending on the case and adapt it to the time at all times. A process that will have to be manual.
It is a process that with the passage of time and as long as the change, schedule, it will be less and less manual and more automaticdue to the increasing penetration of connected devices in the home.
